Hi, I am hoping someone can help me diagnose my fish's problem. It's a male Red Neon Blue Eyed Rainbow fish. He has a bloated belly, and his back seems bent, but his color is still good, and he doesn't seem lethargic. Does this look like a digestion problem, or some kind of bacterial infection? If it's always been that way, I'd lean toward some kind of deformity. If it's coming on suddenly, it could be a blocked intestine. I haven't seen it in neon's before, but definitely has happened to me in other species. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot you can do. Medications for ick and surface infections work pretty well, but internal ones are more wait-and-see.

I think one of my black neons had a similar issue a while back. At the time, it was over 4 years old so I thought it may have been spinal degeneration. It was in a community tank, and thinking it was a physical issue, I didn't bother quarantining it.
But, for the heck of it, in case it was something like bladder disease in bettas, I cut back on feeding and after about 2-3 weeks, the condition went away. Not sure if your fish has the same condition, but that's what happened in my case.
