Dear Southern California Aquatic Plant Enthusiasts (SCAPE) Club Members,
I hope this message finds you well. It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of a recent issue that has affected our beloved website forum, resulting in the loss of valuable content and discussions.
The root cause of the problem was an incomplete transfer, without any notification, of our forum's database during a recent database export, which left the data corrupted. Unfortunately, we were unable to rectify the situation within the limited timeframe provided by our previous hosting provider. As a result, they suspended our services due to an active malware and the only way to restore our website was to reset the hosting service.
We attempted to contact our old hosting provider to request a restoration of our website and database to a previous point in time, but they required explicit permission from the account owner (our ex-treasurer), Paula H which she has been un-reachable for the past year. Despite multiple attempts to contact her, we were unable to reach Paula in time to approve the necessary service charges, and as a result, we were unable to obtain a restoration.
I understand how frustrating and disappointing this situation may be for all of our club members. Many of you have contributed valuable insights and formed strong connections through our forum. I apologize deeply for this loss and any inconvenience it may cause.
In light of these unfortunate circumstances, we have decided to start fresh and rebuild our forum from the ground up. We are committed to ensuring that our new forum will be an even better platform for the SCAPE community to share knowledge, advice, and camaraderie.
Your support and understanding during this challenging time are greatly appreciated. I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and I assure you that we are working diligently to create an improved forum experience for all of our members. We will keep you updated on our progress and will notify you as soon as the new forum is up and running.
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any other member of the SCAPE leadership team.
Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience, and I thank you for your patience and continued support.
Sincerely,
Chris AKA CGAR.
